About the role

This Assistant Professor position is focused on developing independent research and teaching interests within Civil Engineering, with the goal of becoming nationally recognised for academic work. The role includes contributing to curriculum development and publishing in peer-reviewed international journals and other scholarly outlets. The successful candidate will demonstrate academic leadership in either teaching or research, or both, within their area of specialty. Administrative responsibilities are expected at least at the Department or School level, alongside broader university and community service contributions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and advance personal research and teaching interests in Civil Engineering
• Contribute effectively to curriculum development
• Publish in peer-reviewed international journals and other appropriate scholarly outlets
• Demonstrate academic leadership in teaching and/or research specialty
• Undertake administrative duties at Department/School level or above
• Engage in university service, community service, or broader academic leadership and collegiality

About the successful candidate

• PhD in Civil Engineering, specialising in Structural Engineering, Highway Engineering, or Earthquake Engineering
• Masters in Civil Engineering, specialising in Structural Engineering, Highway Engineering, or Earthquake Engineering
• Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering
• At least 5 years of teaching or work experience at Lecturer rank or equivalent
• Demonstrated research and publication record in Scopus or SCI-indexed journals
• Demonstrated evidence of learning and teaching ability, with potential to become an effective teacher
