About the role

This is a dual-level academic position in the Department of Mental Health, Child Care & Adult Medicine at Fiji National University's College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences, open to either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level depending on experience. An Associate Professor is expected to be well known in their field with a national profile, a significant research and scholarship record, and demonstrated academic leadership linking research to teaching. An Assistant Professor has developed their own research and teaching interests, is becoming known nationally, and contributes effectively to curriculum development and academic conferences. Both levels are expected to chair sessions at or be invited to give talks at academic meetings in Fiji and overseas.

Key responsibilities

• Link research expertise to teaching and develop new papers and courses (Associate Professor level)
• Supervise thesis graduate students (Associate Professor level)
• Contribute effectively to curriculum development and publish regularly in peer-reviewed international journals or appropriate outlets
• Chair sessions at or participate in organising committees of academic conferences and disciplinary meetings
• Show academic leadership in teaching and/or research speciality
• Undertake consultancies in area of expertise
• Participate in university service and administrative duties at Department/School level or above

About the successful candidate

• For Associate Professor: Master's degree with specialist registration plus 7 or more years post-registration working experience
• For Assistant Professor: MBBS plus Master's with specialist registration and 5+ years work experience (or less than 5 years with demonstrated potential)
• Demonstrated evidence of good teaching performance and learning and teaching scholarship
• Industrial or clinical experience and contribution in area of expertise
• Clear evidence of Master's/PhD supervision and examination (Associate Professor level)
• Record of regional and/or international contributions, with evidence of university service, community service, or academic leadership and collegiality
