About the company

The Ministry of Agriculture, Waterways and Sugar Industry (MoAW&SI) is partnering with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) on the BE-GREEN programme, co-financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). This Multiphase Adaptive Programme supports the sustainable growth and resilience of Fiji's rural economy through ecosystem management and profitable economic initiatives. The programme targets Vanua Levu, focusing on six districts in Cakaudrove Province and engaging 3,500 households in biodiversity conservation, land restoration, agri-value chains and training.

About the role

This role sits within the BE-GREEN programme and reports directly to the Project Director. The Knowledge Management Officer will develop and manage the BE-GREEN Knowledge Management (KM) system, focusing on identifying, documenting and scaling innovation from project activities. The position is based in Savusavu, Vanua Levu, on a six-year contract with annual performance reviews and a six-month probationary term. The officer will work closely with MOAWSI technical divisions, MoECC, other government ministries, provincial stakeholders in Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata, local communities, NGOs, private sector and development partners across Vanua Levu.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead implementation of the Annual Plan for Inclusive Innovation and Knowledge Management aligned with project objectives
  • Develop a strategy and plans for systematic, continuous learning, improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Establish a project-based KM system to capture, document and share innovative practices and lessons learned, working with the M&E Officer
  • Coordinate with Lead Implementing Partners and field staff to establish feedback loops that capture innovation and challenges for program adaptation
  • Provide orientation for developing an inclusive MIS/GIS to track innovation and lessons learned with the PMU Technical Manager and other experts
  • Collaborate with the service provider developing the BE-GREEN website to ensure effective dissemination of KM products and stakeholder engagement
  • Develop processes to systematically capture, synthesise and share innovations and good practices in formats suited to different audiences
  • Document and validate the BE-GREEN approach as a scalable model for ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation, and coordinate capacity-building for PMU, MoAW, MoECC and partners

About the successful candidate

  • Advanced degree in knowledge management, communication, information management, development studies, social sciences or a related field relevant to rural development and project management
  • At least 5 years' professional experience in knowledge management, communications, or monitoring and evaluation, preferably within internationally funded development projects
  • Fluency in English, written and spoken
  • Proven expertise designing and implementing knowledge management systems, tools and processes
  • Experience in rural development, agriculture or natural resource management projects, with a focus on climate resilience and gender inclusion, is highly desirable
  • Strong technical skills in information sharing platforms, content creation and data visualisation tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to distil complex information for diverse audiences including policymakers, communities and donors
  • Demonstrated ability to organise workshops, knowledge-sharing events and capacity-building initiatives, and proficiency in relevant computer applications

Band H Step 1 to 6, $38,557.21 - $58,294.83 (Fijian Civil Service Band Salary Structure; salary step offer determined by performance interview process)
