About the role

This Registered Pharmacist role in Ba is accountable for delivering high quality, progressive pharmacy services, ensuring safe and quality use of medicines and provision of medicine advice to produce optimum patient outcomes. The position includes supervision, mentoring, and training of Pharmacists, ensuring compliance with clinical and regulatory standards, and supporting strategic pharmacy initiatives. The Registered Pharmacist exercises independent clinical judgment and plays a key role in medication safety, audit processes, and continuous quality improvement, in line with health regulations and organizational standards. Duties span financial management of pharmacy inventory, internal operations including unit-based patient care, data and records management for controlled substances, and other responsibilities such as leadership, mentoring, and contributing to corporate planning and OHS compliance. The role requires completing CPD hours annually and attending at least 4 internal training sessions per year.

Key responsibilities

• Oversees and enforces prudent inventory management practices to minimize breakages, incidental losses, and unnecessary expenditures across pharmacy operations
• Actively leads monitoring of medication expiry dates and stock levels, ensuring adherence to the FEFO (First-Expire, First-Out) method
• Ensures all pharmaceuticals are stored under optimal conditions to preserve stability, quality, and avoid wastage, theft, or deterioration
• Reviews prescriptions and medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and clinical appropriateness
• Carries out transcribing, dispensing, compounding, and provides accurate, timely medication-related information to inpatients, outpatients, and external clients
• Conducts thorough Medication Appropriateness Checks for all new prescriptions during pharmacy operating hours
• Collaborates closely with physicians and nursing staff to clarify or verify medication orders and prevent potential medication errors
• Ensures controlled substances are accurately accounted for according to relevant laws and regulations, and documents near misses and medication errors

About the successful candidate

• A Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and equivalent relevant experience
• Current registration with the Fiji Pharmacy Profession Board
• Sound knowledge and application of all relevant pharmaceutical laws and policies
• Understanding and application of inventory management
• Demonstrated ability to train and mentor staff and fellow colleagues
• Highly developed organisational skills and ability to communicate with people at different levels and from different backgrounds
• Capacity to use computers to support daily operations and ability to monitor staff performance and conduct reviews
• Service oriented approach, preferably with Basic Aseptic Technique Training (training may be provided once hired)
