About the role
This Registered Nurse role provides comprehensive nursing care to patients, covering assessment, care planning, treatment delivery, and coordination with other healthcare professionals. The nurse conducts patient assessments and develops individualised care plans based on diagnoses and goals, then administers medications and treatments under established protocols. The role also carries responsibility for patient and family education, health promotion, and disease prevention, alongside maintaining accurate patient records including electronic health records (Tamanu). The position includes supervising licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and other support staff, and responding to medical emergencies including CPR and life-saving interventions. The nurse is also expected to participate in interdisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional development.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
- Develop individualised care plans based on patient assessments, diagnoses, and goals.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Perform nursing procedures including wound care, IV therapy, catheterization, and other clinical tasks.
- Maintain accurate patient records and update electronic health records (Tamanu) promptly.
- Provide supervision and guidance to licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, and other support staff.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies, including performing CPR and other life-saving interventions.
About the successful candidate
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Hold a valid annual practicing license and registration as a general nurse with the Fiji Nursing Council.
- Experience working in a critical care setting such as ED, CCU, PICU, OT, NICU, or ICU.
- Experience in nursing at a major hospital, community health, or similar nursing environment.
- Sound knowledge of basic nursing principles and clinical practices.
- Good knowledge of the Nursing Act (2011), Scope of Practice, FNC Code of Ethics and Conduct, and relevant OHS legislation.
- Exceptional clinical nursing skills within the scope of practice for registered nurses.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
