Lion One Metals is a mining company operating the Tuvatu gold project in Fiji, within the Mineral Resources department. The company works closely with the Fiji Government, local communities, traditional land holders, and consultants as part of its mining operations.
About the role
This role is based at the Tuvatu site in Fiji and reports to the Mine Manager within the Mineral Resources department. The Long Hole Driller is responsible for operating drill units safely and effectively, following drilling plans, and coordinating with surveyors, geologists, and engineers to optimise drill patterns. The role also involves working with the maintenance team to keep equipment serviced and in proper working order, and upholding Lion One's Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) standards. The roster for this position is to be determined.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out a pre-start check before operating the drill unit
- Ensure the drilling plan is understood and followed
- Assess ground conditions at the face and implement good ground control according to site requirements
- Note any variation from the drilling plan, such as blocked holes, breakthroughs, and deviation
- Communicate with surveyors, geologists and engineers to optimise drill pattern
- Work with the maintenance team to ensure the machine is serviced and maintained in proper working order
- Demonstrate safe behaviour and comply with site SHEC standards and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Mine Manager
About the successful candidate
- Minimum of 5 years industry experience as a Longhole Driller
- Experience operating twin boom Jumbos
- Current manual driver's licence
- Education to a minimum of GCSE or equivalent
- Ability to schedule and prioritise tasks, with a strong commitment to workplace health and safety
- Ability to read and understand drilling instruction sheets to complete shift reports
- Good practical understanding of drilling and mining methods, and how equipment works on a daily basis
- Physically fit with a positive, can-do attitude and proficiency with hand tools
