Abt Global manages the Fiji Program Support Platform (FPSP), an investment funded by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) that supports delivery of Fiji's national development priorities under the Vuvale Partnership. The Platform delivers bilateral programs across health, education, scholarships, social infrastructure, governance, climate and emergency response. Within this, the Australia Fiji Education Program (AFEP) works with Fiji's Ministry of Education to catalyse quality education delivery for all Fijian children, with funding of approximately AUD45 million over up to nine years.

About the role

This is a short-term contract position (50 working days over a five-month period) supporting the Ministry of Education's rollout of the Revised Secondary Maths Curriculum (RSMC) for Year 10 Mathematics. The role is remote/home-based with required travel to Suva, Fiji, and is open to both national and international applicants. The Adviser will develop a comprehensive package of curriculum-aligned instructional tools, including teacher guides, student learning materials, assessment tools and supplementary aids, to strengthen competency-based, student-centred teaching. Work involves reviewing existing curriculum and materials, building resources that incorporate GEDSI and climate disaster resilience considerations, consulting with MoE and AFEP stakeholders, and supporting quality assurance of the final outputs. All materials produced become the property of Fiji's Ministry of Education.

Key responsibilities

• Review the RSMC, Year 10 Mathematics syllabus, assessment guidelines and existing teaching materials to identify key competencies, learning outcomes and content gaps
• Develop Teacher Instructional Guides with curriculum-aligned lesson plans, pedagogical approaches and pacing guidance
• Develop Student Learning Materials including activity sheets, contextualised problem-solving tasks and differentiated learning tasks
• Develop Formative and Summative Assessment Tools such as classroom tasks, rubrics and marking schemes
• Develop Supplementary Teaching Aids including worked examples, visual aids and guidance for low-resource settings
• Identify and document GEDSI and climate disaster resilience (CDR) considerations, ensuring outputs are equitable, inclusive and evidence-based
• Participate in technical discussions with MoE and AFEP, present draft materials for review and revise outputs based on feedback
• Support quality assurance of outputs for consistency, curriculum alignment and teacher-friendly formatting
