About the role
This Graduate Engineer (Mechanical) role supports the design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical systems used across the Authority's water and wastewater infrastructure. The position covers a broad scope including system design, installation oversight, preventive and corrective maintenance, operational support, project management, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will assist in designing mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, and valves, and help ensure these systems integrate properly with electrical controls, automation systems, and existing infrastructure. The role also involves working alongside operations staff and collaborating across engineering disciplines to keep mechanical systems running efficiently and reliably.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in designing mechanical systems including pumps, compressors, HVAC systems, and valves for new installations or upgrades; develop detailed design specifications, drawings, and schematics.
- Evaluate and select appropriate mechanical equipment and materials based on operational requirements, efficiency, durability, and cost considerations.
- Ensure mechanical systems are properly integrated with electrical controls, automation systems, and existing infrastructure; collaborate with other engineering disciplines.
- Oversee installation of mechanical systems, manage installation teams and subcontractors, and conduct inspections and testing to verify compliance with design specifications.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs including scheduling inspections, servicing, replacements, and creating maintenance checklists and procedures.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical failures using diagnostic tools; perform corrective repairs safely and in accordance with industry standards.
- Monitor mechanical system performance using diagnostic tools and SCADA systems; respond to system alerts and alarms to minimize downtime.
- Provide technical assistance to operations staff, develop and deliver training programs on new systems and best practices, and identify efficiency improvements.
