The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is the national body responsible for providing water and wastewater services across Fiji. It manages water supply infrastructure serving over 159,000 residential and 33,540 non-residential metered customers in both urban and rural areas.
About the role
This role supports water and wastewater system management by assisting supervisors with operational planning, system monitoring, and complaint resolution. The Technical Officer will manage daily work scheduling, coordinate resources and manpower, and ensure repairs, installations, and reinstatement works meet high quality standards. Responsibilities also include monitoring network performance, undertaking valve operations and system flushing, and working with the Leak Detection Unit to reduce water wastage. The position reports to a supervisor and involves close coordination with field teams and the National Control Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Formulate, develop and implement operational plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and DMA functions with supervisor support
- Provide daily system performance reports and resolve gentrack complaints based on field team feedback, detailing materials and time spent on works
- Plan and schedule customer complaints with reference to gentrack service orders, organizing resources, manpower and materials on a daily basis
- Update gentrack Service Orders, close complaints upon completion, prioritize service orders and analyze complaint closure performance against targets
- Ensure complaints are attended in accordance with WAF Customer Charter service level targets and minimize escalated complaints and referrals
- Drive and maintain high standards of repairs, installation and reinstatement works, targeting zero return jobs and ensuring proper execution of Traffic Management Plans
- Monitor water supply system performance, undertake valve operations, system flushing and report to National Control Centre on valve operations and disruption notices
- Coordinate with Leak Detection Unit to identify non-visible leakages, undertake regular pressure and flow readings, and monitor and address leakages to reduce water wastage
About the successful candidate
- Trade Certificate, Certificate III or Certificate IV in Plumbing & Sheet Metal, Welding & Fabrication, or Carpentry with at least 7 years experience as a Service Technician / Water Fitter, or 5 years proven experience in water and wastewater operations and maintenance
- Trade Test Certificate (Class III) Pipe Fitter / Plumber (General) with at least 3 years relevant experience in operations and maintenance
