The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is a corporate body established under the Water Authority of Fiji Act 2007 to manage and administer water and wastewater systems across Fiji. WAF provides quality drinking water and wastewater services to over 159,000 residential and 33,540 non-residential metered customers in urban areas, and also establishes water supply systems in rural communities.
About the role
This Technician role owns the efficient operations and maintenance of District Meter Areas (DMAs) and distribution networks. The position requires thorough understanding and execution of DMA Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistent service delivery. The Technician carries out Planned Preventative Maintenance and general maintenance works in a timely manner, while also managing and resolving customer complaints in line with the WAF Customer Charter. Scheduled works include repair and maintenance, upgrades, flushing, and cleaning of water mains and appurtenances, with daily logs prepared and reported to a supervisor for documentation and complaint closure.
Key responsibilities
- Execute efficient and effective operations and maintenance for WAF District Meter Area and Distribution Networks Services
- Ensure thorough understanding and execution of DMA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) works and general maintenance in a timely manner
- Deliver quality and timely works to address customer complaints and referrals in line with the WAF Customer Charter
- Manage and resolve customer complaints in partnership with relevant staff and collaborate across WAF departments
- Execute scheduled works including repair and maintenance, operations, upgrades, flushing, and cleaning of water mains and appurtenances
- Prepare daily logs of all operations and maintenance activities and report to supervisor for documentation and complaint closure
- Operate power tools safely and efficiently in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Procedures
About the successful candidate
- Certificate III in Plumbing and Sheet Metal with 3 years of relevant experience in water or wastewater network operations, OR Trade Test Certificate Class III in Pipe Fitter or Plumber General with 2 years of demonstrated experience
- Knowledge of network operations and management (added advantage)
- Ability to operate power tools safely and comply with health and safety procedures
- Strong communication and reporting skills for daily documentation and supervisor updates
- Team collaboration and ability to work across functions to achieve departmental targets
- Valid driver's license for vehicle operation and logistics support
