About the role

This Opex Accountant role sits within the Finance Team at the Digicel Office in Nabua and reports to the Financial Controller - Samoa, though the position itself is based in Fiji. The role is responsible for ensuring proper accountability of all OPEX functions and providing business support to Digicel Samoa Ltd. Duties span PO approvals, budget control, month-end reporting, OPEX tracking, and cash flow forecasting. The accountant also works closely with the FC on process controls and cost optimization, liaises with market HODs/Managers on OPEX spend, and handles quarterly audit workbooks, bi-annual environment/climate reporting to Telstra, and contract reviews for IFRS 16 qualification.

Key responsibilities

  • Review and approve OPEX POs in workplace twice daily, ensuring none are approved without budget.
  • Ensure the PO Approval Timetable is always followed.
  • Complete month-end reporting including Opex journal entries, prepayments and accrual schedule updates, and GL reconciliations.
  • Update and circulate the OPEX Tracker weekly to the market.
  • Hold fortnightly meetings with market HODs/Managers to discuss OPEX spend versus budget.
  • Prepare the operating expenditure budget and load it into Management Reporter Software in Great Plains and EPBCS.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow actuals and forecasts covering operating, investing, and financing activities, and review cash payment forecasts with the AP team.
  • Analyse foreign exchange transactions, complete quarterly Audit Workbooks, submit bi-annual environment/climate reports to Telstra, and review contracts in Nomos for IFRS 16 qualification.

About the successful candidate

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is desirable.
  • 2-3 years' experience in a similar field.
  • Hands-on experience with finance ERP systems, preferably Workplace and Great Plains.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office with advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Positive attitude and poise under pressure.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
