About the role

This IT Operations Engineer role is based in Suva and supports Vuvale's local IT environment, infrastructure projects and day-to-day technical needs. The role covers hands-on support across end-user equipment, networking, servers, systems, cloud and virtualisation, and business systems. It includes managing IT assets through their full lifecycle, maintaining infrastructure documentation, and supporting system upgrades, business continuity, backup and recovery activities. Onsite and after-hours support is required for infrastructure incidents, maintenance and project work. The engineer also coordinates with approved IT vendors and service providers, and supports access control and CCTV systems in line with IT security standards. A project or as-needed contractor arrangement is preferred, though part-time or full-time employment may be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands-on IT support across desktops, laptops, printers, Wi-Fi and other end-user equipment, resolving hardware, software and connectivity issues in a timely manner.
• Install, configure, move, replace and test IT and network equipment, including PCs, switches, routers, wireless access points, cabling and patching.
• Administer and support servers, operating systems, LAN/WAN/VPN connectivity and related infrastructure.
• Monitor infrastructure availability and performance, maintain effective alerting, and escalate critical issues where required.
• Manage IT assets across their lifecycle, including allocation, onboarding/offboarding, repairs, replacements, procurement and maintaining an accurate asset inventory.
• Maintain accurate infrastructure documentation, including network diagrams, equipment registers and configuration records.
• Support infrastructure improvements, system upgrades, technical projects, business continuity, backup and recovery activities.
• Support and administer access control and CCTV systems, and coordinate with approved IT vendors and service providers.

About the successful candidate

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, network engineering, IT operations or a similar technical role.
• Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, Systems Administration or a related field is desirable.
• Networking and connectivity knowledge: LAN, WAN, VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routers, switches, VLANs, Wi-Fi, UniFi/Ubiquiti, OPNsense, WireGuard and network fault diagnosis.
• Familiarity with systems, cloud and virtualisation tools such as Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory, Azure AD, Microsoft Intune, Office 365, AWS, Proxmox, XCP-ng, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with infrastructure and business systems including monitoring and alerting, backup and recovery, storage, VoIP systems, Cloudflare Zero Trust, CCTV and access control.
• A methodical troubleshooting approach that identifies root causes rather than applying only quick fixes.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership and see issues through to resolution.
• Clear communication with users, management, vendors and stakeholders, and reliability for onsite or after-hours support.
