Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) is Fiji's national electricity authority, responsible for generating, distributing and maintaining power supply across the country. EFL manages the national grid, including installations, connections and network infrastructure for domestic, commercial and industrial customers.
About the role
This role is based at EFL's Navutu Depot in the Western Division and reports to the Electrical Installation Inspector. The Electrician 'A' contributes to EFL's business through inspection and connection of electrical installations, commissioning of new and existing installations, and maintenance of control hardware (low and high voltage) and reticulation systems. Work includes inspecting electrical wiring and fixtures in buildings and plants, carrying out electrical tests and power quality measurements, and ensuring compliance with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules. The electrician interprets electrical drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams, and inspects distribution boards, fuses, circuit breakers, switches and other fittings. The role also involves attending customer faults, assisting with meter disconnection/reconnection, and being available for 24-hour standby on a weekly rota to respond to emergencies and breakdowns.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out connections/disconnections or maintenance works on Pillar boxes or climb and work on heights on EFL power poles.
- Work under general supervision of an Electrical Installations Inspector inspecting electrical wiring and fixtures in buildings and electrical plants.
- Carry out electrical tests and visual inspection on electrical installations to ensure standards compliance prior to connection to the EFL grid.
- Carry out power supply quality measurements using power quality analyzers, data loggers and multimeters.
- Ensure electrical wiring and equipment comply with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules.
- Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, plans and wiring diagrams; inspect distribution boards, fuses, circuit breakers, switches and light fittings.
- Attend to customer faults, assist with meter disconnection/reconnection, and be available for 24-hour standby duty on a weekly basis for emergencies and breakdowns.
- Drive Authority vehicles in line with Fleet Manual policies and procedures, and carry out load balancing on Network Distribution Transformers.
About the successful candidate
- Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years' experience in the electricity industry as a skilled wireman in industrial, domestic and commercial wiring.
- Must possess a valid wiring person's license.
- Must hold a valid Group 'Full' 2 driving license.
