About the role
This role is based at Energy Fiji Limited's Nadarivatu Power Station and reports to the Team Leader Renewable Generation Nadarivatu. The Mechanical Technician is accountable for the efficient and economical mechanical operation and maintenance of Nadarivatu power station and Korolevu dam. The role includes supervising team members and ensuring safe work procedures are followed at all times. It covers hands-on mechanical work such as dismantling, inspecting, and reassembling equipment, along with inventory, reporting, and asset management duties. The technician may also be required to be on general availability and undertake roster duration away from base.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to according to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Authority's safety rules and procedures
- Carry out assigned daily mechanical works plan for operation, repair and maintenance of power stations
- Dismantle mechanical items, carry out visual inspections and performance tests using measuring instruments and apparatus
- Determine types and degree of repair required, serviceability of parts and components, or necessity for replacement
- Reassemble engine components, complete additional fittings and adjustments, and carry out final performance tests
- Ensure prudent inventory management and control of adequate gen-set and machine spares
- Compile and deliver generation statistics and reports accurately and on time to the Team Leader
- Assist in preparing yearly maintenance plans for all generation assets and activities
About the successful candidate
- A Diploma in Mechanical or Plant Engineering from a recognized Tertiary Institution
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience in power generation
- Computer literate
- Must hold a valid Group 2 Driving License
- Able to supervise team members and enforce safe work procedures
- Capable of maintaining amicable relations and managing contracts with landowners
- Willing to be on general availability and undertake roster duration away from base
