About the role
The Legal team at HFC Bank is seeking a Paralegal Officer to be based at the Head Office in Suva. The successful incumbent will report to the Manager Securities. This role owns the Bank's conveyancing matters, security documentation, and settlement processes, requiring liaison with the Bank's panel of solicitors, statutory and government bodies, and internal business units.
Key responsibilities
- Attend to the Bank's conveyancing matters, including managing legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements
- Prepare security documentation and legal instruments with a high degree of accuracy to ensure the Bank's interests are adequately protected
- Ensure timely lodgment of security documents for registration
- Manage and control inward and outward settlements, including issuing instructions to solicitors
- Liaise effectively with the Bank's panel of solicitors, statutory and government bodies, and internal business units
- Attend to the discharge of securities and settlements with relevant parties in a timely manner
- Monitor legal compliance requirements and stay abreast of regulatory developments
About the successful candidate
- Tertiary qualifications in Legal Studies or a related discipline are desirable but not essential
- Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in a similar role
- Sound knowledge of conveyancing practices and security documentation
- Demonstrated ability to draft legal documents accurately and efficiently
- Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory framework within which the Bank operates
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with government agencies, solicitors, customers, and court officials
- Strong attention to detail and sound professional judgement
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
