About the role
The System Engineer sits within the Network, Systems & Security Department under the Division of Information Technology Services. This role manages a virtualized hyper-converged environment running on VMware and VSAN, along with Windows OS administration. Core duties include managing DELL Blade servers, Veeam Replication, and Rubrik backup, as well as hardware, HDD spacing, memory allocation, maintenance, monitoring, patching, and server upgrades. The incumbent assists with budget submissions, evaluates tenders, provides management reports, manages assigned projects, and mentors other team members. The role also manages access to the university's geographically dispersed data centers and disaster recovery site on Viti Levu, provides support for users and assigned applications, provisions servers and storage per customer requirements, and supports solution design and third-party vendor evaluation.
Key responsibilities
- Manage VMWare, VSAN, DELL Blade servers, Veeam Replication, and Rubrik backup
- Manage hardware, HDD spacing, memory allocation, maintenance, monitoring, patching, and server upgrades
- Assist with budget submissions, evaluate tenders, and provide management reports
- Manage assigned projects and mentor other team members
- Manage access to data centers and the disaster recovery site across Viti Levu
- Provide support for customers and assigned applications/information systems, including server, memory, and HDD provisioning
- Support solution design and translate requirements into workable technical solutions
- Support evaluation of third-party vendors as directed
About the successful candidate
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security, or Information Technology
- VMWare Certified Technical Associate (VCTA)
- 3 years' experience in the IT sector, with at least 2 years managing VMWare, Rubrik, Veeam, IBM Blade server, Dell Blade server, and SAN Storage systems
- Prior experience with VMWare environments, data backup technologies, and enterprise-level event management
- Fundamental understanding of software, computers, and network architecture
- Experience managing Server Access Monitoring software
- Excellent customer service skills
- Prior knowledge of documentation
