About the role
This role sits within the Client Services department under the Division of Information Technology Services at FNU's Samabula Campus. The inventory officer manages the IT stores and ensures a sufficient supply of materials for the university. A key duty is tendering lists of frequently purchased hardware items at least once a year and selecting preferred suppliers through the tender process. The role maintains order lead times to enable just-in-time delivery, avoiding liabilities from over-procurement and storage, and ensures ordered products follow the University Standard Computer specification policy. It also supports IT Management with inventory system changes and procurement of new equipment, and contributes to implementing new technology and maintaining IT documentation and procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the IT stores and ensure a sufficient supply of materials.
- Tender lists of frequently purchased hardware items at least once a year and select preferred suppliers through the tender process.
- Maintain the order lead time for each product to ensure timely orders with just-in-time delivery, avoiding liabilities from over-procurement and storage.
- Ensure the newest and supported models of products are ordered following the University Standard Computer specification policy.
- Provide support to IT Management in delivering inventory system changes and procuring new equipment best suited for the University.
- Support the implementation of new technology and continual improvements in IT operations functionality.
- Contribute to and maintain existing IT documentation and procedures.
About the successful candidate
- Diploma in Information Technology, Information Systems with Finance or Accounting background, or related field.
- Four years of IT experience with at least 1 year managing inventory for a large organization.
- Experience carrying out physical inventory of equipment, including lifting, storing, and delivering equipment to sites.
- Desirable: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems with Finance or Accounting background or related.
- Desirable: Experience working in a large, geographically distributed environment dealing with multi-skilled teams, reports, analysis, and recommendations, including managing multiple vendors (contracted and non-contracted).
- Desirable: Collaboration skills dealing with other departments and outside parties.
