About the role
This Legal Officer position (Level LO 04) is based in Labasa and reports to the Officer in Charge. The role provides professional and efficient legal services, contributing to the legal team's effectiveness and the organisation's overall compliance and legal strategy. The Legal Officer handles legal matters, ensures compliance with policies, and supports organisational goals through litigation management and client representation.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure professional and efficient delivery of legal advice by conducting thorough legal research
- Represent clients effectively in legal proceedings with strong command of legal arguments and strategies
- Manage assigned litigation matters effectively
- Ensure a fair and objective evaluation process in applications for Legal Aid assistance
- Foster supportive networks and positive relationships while collaborating with stakeholders
- Ensure comprehensive understanding of and compliance with LAC policies and strategies
- Contribute actively to a high-performing LAC team
- Manage workload effectively with accurate and timely completion of tasks
About the successful candidate
- Professionally qualified under the provisions of the Legal Practitioners Act
- Admitted to the High Court of Fiji to practice as a Barrister & Solicitor with a valid Practicing Certificate
- Willing to work in Labasa
- Thorough knowledge and experience of the Constitution and Laws of Fiji
- Working knowledge of law, drafting, research and representation
- Passion to advocate in Family, Civil and Criminal litigation
- High ethical standards and professionalism
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with cultural awareness and sensitivity
