About the role
This role supports the collection, handling, and distribution of laboratory samples to respective sections in the Pathology department, contributing to accurate and reliable results within turnaround time. The Phlebotomist ensures patient and blood donor comfort and confidentiality while following Standard Operating Procedures, laboratory policies, and company values. The role also involves maintaining a clean and disinfected work area, proper specimen handling, and effective resource management with minimum wastage.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure patient and blood donor comfort, confidentiality, and good customer service while adhering to SOPs and laboratory policies
- Keep work area clean and disinfected daily, handle specimens per laboratory sections, and update patients and customers
- Contribute to proper management of resources with minimum wastage and complete assigned duties in other sections
- Contribute to training, supervision, and assessment of new recruits and students
- Participate in developing a safe and healthy workplace and comply with safe work procedures
- Take reasonable care for own safety and health and that of others per the OHS policy
- Perform other reasonable duties delegated by management
About the successful candidate
- Certificate in Phlebotomy
- Sound understanding of phlebotomy practices, processes, and procedures
- Knowledge of general laboratory safety, effective use of personal protective equipment, and compliance with laboratory policies and SOPs
- Good understanding of Laboratory Quality Management Systems, including sample reception and phlebotomy for donors and patients
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy of patient information
- Demonstrated ability to work within a high-performing team environment
- Good communication skills with the ability to write concise, accurate reports
- Ability to manage competing work priorities to meet scheduled timeframes
