About the role

This Commis 1 Pastry role sits within the kitchen team and covers hands-on food preparation and cooking duties to recipe, quality, and presentation standards. The position involves working with fresh ingredients, cold food preparation, and operating standard kitchen equipment such as ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers. The role also includes setting up and breaking down the work station, maintaining food safety and temperature checks, and keeping kitchen areas and tools clean and disinfected. No supervisory responsibility is attached to this position, and the role requires working collaboratively with other kitchen staff to meet shared quality and service goals.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food.
• Wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables.
• Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients.
• Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards, and food preparation checklist.
• Prepare cold foods.
• Operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers.
• Monitor food quality while preparing food.
• Set up and break down work station, serve food in proper portions, and wash and disinfect kitchen area, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.

About the successful candidate

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related work experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• No license or certification required.
• Position open to Fiji citizens only.
• Able to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period or entire shift, and to move, lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Speaks with others using clear and professional language.
• Develops and maintains positive working relationships, supporting the team to reach common goals.
