About the role
This Commis 1 role sits within the resort's kitchen team, responsible for preparing ingredients and cooking dishes to recipe, quality, and presentation standards. The position covers a full range of hot and cold food preparation tasks, from portioning and chopping to operating kitchen equipment like ovens, grills, and fryers. The commis works closely with supervisors and other kitchen staff, following food preparation checklists and reporting to management on maintenance or safety issues. The role also involves setting up and breaking down work stations, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring food and appliance temperatures meet requirements. Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds throughout the shift.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients for cooking, including portioning, chopping, and storing food
- Wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables; weigh, measure, and mix ingredients
- Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, and presentation standards
- Prepare cold foods and operate ovens, stoves, grills, microwaves, and fryers
- Test foods for proper cooking and monitor food quality during preparation
- Set up and break down work stations; serve food in proper portions
- Wash and disinfect kitchen areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment
- Check and ensure correct temperatures of appliances and food
About the successful candidate
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent preferred
- At least 1 year of related work experience preferred
- No supervisory experience required
- No specific license or certification required
- Position open to Fiji citizens only
- Able to follow safety and security policies and complete safety training
- Able to stand, sit, or walk for an entire work shift and perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds
- Good communication skills and ability to work positively within a team
