About the role
The Carpenter is responsible for carrying out carpentry, maintenance, and repair work throughout the property to keep facilities safe, functional, and well maintained. This position sits within the Engineering Department and involves installing, repairing, and maintaining walls, partitions, doors, furniture, cabinetry, drywall, and laminates. The role also covers responding to maintenance requests, managing materials and tools through approved purchasing processes, and receiving, transporting, and storing equipment as needed. The carpenter works alongside Engineering and other departments to maintain guest relationships and minimize disruption during repairs. Following company safety, security, and maintenance procedures, and reporting hazards or equipment malfunctions, are part of the role.
Key responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain doors, furniture, cabinetry, walls, partitions, and wooden fixtures.
- Perform drywall repairs, framing, laminates, wallpaper, molding, and finishing work.
- Complete minor maintenance tasks including wall patching, replacing light bulbs, and repairing fittings.
- Support preventive maintenance and refurbishment projects across the property.
- Respond to maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
- Order and manage materials, supplies, and tools through approved purchasing processes.
- Receive, transport, and store materials and equipment as required.
- Follow company safety, security, and maintenance procedures and report hazards, accidents, and equipment malfunctions promptly.
About the successful candidate
- Trade Certificate or equivalent qualification in Carpentry, Joinery, Building Construction, or a related trade.
- Minimum 2 years of carpentry, construction, or building maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of carpentry, drywall, framing, laminates, and finishing work.
- Experience in hospitality, commercial, or facilities maintenance environments is advantageous.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required.
- Must have working rights in Fiji.
