About the role
This Steward role sits within the kitchen and stewarding department, keeping wares, equipment, and food-prep areas clean and ready for service. The position covers dishwashing, sanitising, stock rotation of deliveries, and waste and recycling handling across assigned areas. It also involves physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for extended periods, and reaching, bending, or stooping as part of daily duties. The steward works alongside the wider team and reports maintenance issues, safety concerns, or accidents to a manager, and takes on other reasonable duties as requested by supervisors.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including the dish washing machine, hand wash stations, pot-scrubbing station, and trash compactor.
- Wash and disinfect kitchen and store room areas, tables, tools, knives, and equipment.
- Receive deliveries, store perishables properly, and rotate stock.
- Ensure clean wares are stored in appropriate areas.
- Use detergent, rinsing, and sanitizing chemicals in the 3-compartment sink to clean dishes.
- Inspect, pull, and stack cleaned items; send soiled items back for re-scrubbing and re-washing.
- Sort, soak, and wash/re-wash silverware; empty and maintain trashcans and dumpster area.
- Clean and mop assigned areas, dispose of glass properly, and break down cardboard and recyclables.
About the successful candidate
- No high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
- No related work experience required.
- Position open to Fiji Citizens only.
- Able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Able to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods and reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and stooping.
- Comfortable speaking with others using clear and professional language.
- Willing to follow company safety and security policies and complete required safety training and certifications.
