About the role
The Executive Housekeeper leads the overall strategy and day-to-day management of the Housekeeping department, covering guestrooms, public areas, laundry, recreation areas, and other assigned operational spaces. The role is accountable for maintaining consistently high standards of cleanliness, presentation, hygiene, and maintenance in line with brand and resort standards. Given the island-based nature of the operation, the position also carries responsibility for workforce planning, inventory and supply management, and cost control, alongside close coordination with other departments to keep operations uninterrupted. The Executive Housekeeper is expected to drive guest experience, develop and engage the Housekeeping team, protect hotel assets, and support the resort's operational and financial performance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and oversee daily Housekeeping operations across guestrooms, public areas, laundry, recreation facilities, and other assigned areas.
- Establish and monitor cleaning schedules, room assignments, productivity standards, and quality inspection processes.
- Coordinate with Front Office on room status, priority rooms, arrivals, departures, and special guest requirements, and with Engineering on maintenance and defect resolution.
- Prepare, manage, and monitor the Housekeeping departmental budget, including operating expenses and capital requirements.
- Maintain inventory and stock-management processes suited to an island-based resort, coordinating with Procurement on supplies, chemicals, linen, and equipment.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the Housekeeping team, including onboarding, training, coaching, performance reviews, and succession planning.
- Develop staffing structures and rosters, and partner with Human Resources on recruitment, employee relations, and workforce utilisation.
- Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety, hygiene, sanitation, and chemical-handling requirements, and conduct regular inspections and quality audits.
About the successful candidate
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 4-6 years of progressive experience in Housekeeping operations, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a hotel or resort environment.
- Strong understanding of housekeeping standards, cleaning procedures, sanitation, and quality assurance practices aligned with international hotel brands.
- Proven experience managing large teams, including room attendants, public area attendants, and laundry staff.
- Demonstrated ability in budget management, cost control, inventory management, and forecasting within housekeeping operations.
- Familiarity with hotel systems (e.g., Opera or similar PMS) and coordination processes with Front Office and Engineering teams.
- Sound knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety standards, hygiene regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to Fiji hospitality operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train, motivate, and develop team members, and to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays.
