Abt Global implements the Fiji Program Support Platform (FPSP), a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) investment supporting Fiji's national development priorities under the Australia-Fiji Vuvale Partnership. The Platform delivers bilateral programs across health, education, scholarships, social infrastructure, governance, climate and emergency preparedness and response. Within this, the Australia Fiji Education Program (AFEP) works with Fiji's Ministry of Education (MoE) to catalyse quality education delivery for all Fijian children.

About the role

This is a Short Term Personnel engagement of 60 working days, remote/home-based with travel to Suva, open to both national and international applicants. The Advisor will support MoE and AFEP to design and develop a comprehensive Year 11 English curriculum package, building on the existing RSEC Year 9 and Year 10 English frameworks. Work includes reviewing current curriculum frameworks and pedagogy, developing the Year 11 Curriculum Framework, and producing teacher guides, scaffolded lesson plans, student learning materials, lesson planning tools, and an assessment and testing framework. The Advisor will consult with MoE's Examination and Assessment Unit (EAU) and Curriculum Advisory Services (CAS), and engage teachers, Heads of Departments, Heads of Schools and Teacher Training Institutions during validation. Outputs must reflect gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI) principles and incorporate climate disaster resilience (CDR) content.

Key responsibilities

• Review existing RSEC Year 9 and Year 10 English curriculum frameworks and materials, identifying areas of success and areas for strengthening, feeding back into ongoing support to Years 9 and 10
• Review current Year 11 to Year 13 curriculum frameworks, prescribed pedagogy, materials and student learning progression, and identify progression pathways and competency gaps
• Develop a Year 11 English Curriculum Framework covering learning outcomes, competencies, unit/thematic structure and pedagogical strategy, ensuring vertical progression from Years 9-10 and readiness for Year 12
• Develop teacher guidance materials including unit overviews, scaffolded lesson plans, teaching methodologies aligned with RSEC pedagogy, differentiation strategies, and integration of formative and summative assessments
• Develop student-facing materials including reading texts, comprehension tasks, writing activities, language and grammar exercises, and critical thinking and discussion prompts
• Develop standardised lesson planning templates and scaffolding tools with learning objectives, lesson flow, time allocations and assessment checkpoints
• Develop a comprehensive assessment system in consultation with MoE's Examination and Assessment Unit and Curriculum Advisory Services, including formative and summative tasks, rubrics and marking schemes
• Participate in stakeholder consultations with teachers, Heads of Departments, Heads of Schools and Teacher Training Institutions to validate and revise curriculum outputs
