Its Climate Change and Sustainability (CCS) Division consolidates the organisation's climate change work under strategic and technical leadership and promotes integration of these issues across all divisions.

About the role

The Nature-based Solutions Mainstreaming Advisor sits within the Climate Change and Sustainability Division and is responsible for mainstreaming NbS throughout SPC's activities and partnerships to tackle the climate crisis, with a focus on nature-based solutions and adaptation and climate resilience work. The role involves developing an NbS organisational strategy and operational plans, and providing technical oversight and quality assurance across NbS-related initiatives, trainings, and briefings. It also carries responsibility for growing SPC's NbS portfolio through resource mobilisation, donor engagement, and joint advocacy at international gatherings. The advisor provides technical oversight of the Kiwa Initiative and PPIN projects, including HR and recruitment support, budget planning, operational guidance, and reporting coordination. The position includes people management duties such as day-to-day management of a direct report, performance appraisals, and staff development. The contract is budgeted for three years, subject to renewal depending on funding and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to developing an NbS organisational strategy and manage operational and yearly workplans to expand SPC's NbS work.
• Provide technical oversight and quality assurance to NbS initiatives, including trainings and briefing sessions.
• Provide technical leadership to ideas, concepts, projects, and portfolio development across the organisation.
• Develop and implement a communication strategy with technical divisions and senior leadership to enhance SPC's visibility on NbS.
• Design and lead engagements to mainstream and upscale NbS in donors' work globally, and identify new funding opportunities.
• Lead HR, recruitment, and budget planning for dedicated NbS projects including the Kiwa Initiative and PPIN.
• Coordinate and finalise reporting requirements for PPIN and Kiwa Initiative projects.
• Manage day-to-day performance, training, and career development of a direct report.

About the successful candidate

• Master's degree in Natural Resource Management, Ecology, Environment, Conservation, Sustainable Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Education, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in international development and climate change.
• Over 5 years of experience in medium-large, complex climate change project management or development.
• At least 2 years of experience in people management.
• Thorough understanding of project management, including project cycles, log-frames, monitoring and evaluation, and risk management.
• Established leadership and management track record, with experience developing influential regional or international policy networks.
• Proven cross-functional experience working with a wide range of partners, donors, and stakeholders.
• Excellent English with strong communication, presentation, training, and facilitation skills; knowledge of Pacific Island countries and territories is an advantage.
