The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. SPC's Human Rights and Social Development Division (HRSD) works to advance human rights, equality and social inclusion for Pacific people, grounded in cultural values and principles, building on prior work of the Regional Rights Resource Team and the Social Development Programme.
About the role
This role oversees the coordination and implementation of strategic communications, engagement and outreach plans for the Pacific Women Lead (PWL) programme. It coordinates visibility communications through high-quality, multi-media communication and media products for a wide range of stakeholders, and develops and implements communication workplans and strategies, including monitoring, evaluation and learning, complementing DFAT's gender equality Communications Strategy for SPC's GE flagship. The position also develops engagement and outreach approaches to reach key partners, member countries' government and NGO stakeholders, and grantees, and oversees communications reporting for organizational and donor reports. It includes people management responsibilities such as managing team leave, performance appraisals and delivering internal and partner-facing communications training. Given the role may work across other HRSD work programmes and broader SPC delivery, it carries matrix reporting and working relationships with others in the Division.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement communication workplans and strategies, including MEL, for SPC's gender equality flagship and outcome area
- Lead development of high quality, innovative programme communications and knowledge products for the PWL programme
- Produce media statements, stories, Op Eds, publications and other resources to ensure visibility of the gender equality outcome area
- Identify opportunities to engage senior level partners such as ministerial and diplomatic staff and promote the gender equality outcome area
- Develop engagement and outreach strategies to reach key partners, SPC member countries' government and NGO stakeholders, and grantees
- Oversee communications reporting for organizational, donor and other reports, working with MEL for quality presentation and content
- Manage delivery of SPC's gender equality communication plans, team leave approvals, management plans and performance appraisals
- Co-lead SPC Communications coordination for the PPA convening, including the Triennial Conference of Pacific Women and Pacific Ministers for Women Meeting
About the successful candidate
- Post graduate qualification in a relevant field such as journalism, communications, or equivalent body of knowledge and experience
- At least 7 years of strategic communications and visibility-related experience, preferably in the Pacific region
- Experience managing development and design of print, online and multi-media communications materials for a range of audiences, to tight deadlines
- Ability to translate text-heavy documents or information into user-friendly visual materials
- Excellent interpersonal and representational skills with experience building and maintaining effective working relationships
- Demonstrated understanding of Pacific cultural values, gender equality concepts, human rights, good governance and development challenges in the region
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive and equitable environment
