The Geoscience, Energy and Maritime (GEM) Division, which hosts this role, provides advice, technical assistance, research and training support to Pacific Island countries and territories across oceans and maritime affairs, geoscience and energy, disaster and water resilience, and earth and ocean observation.
About the role
This role sits within the Pacific Humanitarian Warehousing Program (PHWP) under the GEM Division and reports to the Communications Advisor. It is responsible for delivering high-quality digital content, graphic design, video production, website updates and communications support for the programme, in line with SPC and GEM brand standards. Core work includes developing and delivering an annual digital communications plan, running day-to-day social media presence, and producing a high volume of short-form video and written content for diverse audiences. The officer also supports stakeholder engagement and visibility with member governments, development partners, UN agencies and regional partners, and contributes communications inputs to quarterly and annual reporting. Additional duties cover building communications capacity among programme and NDMO staff, coordinating logistics and vendor liaison for events and workshops, and contributing content and digital assets to GEM-wide communications channels.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and deliver an annual digital communications plan covering social media, web and digital knowledge products
- Manage day-to-day social media presence including content planning, creation, scheduling, community management and performance analysis
- Produce a high volume of short-form video and written content for diverse audiences
- Support external communications and visibility with member governments, development partners, UN agencies and regional partners
- Contribute communications inputs to quarterly and annual reporting, including digital reach and stakeholder engagement data
- Provide communications guidance and hands-on training to programme and NDMO staff on digital content production
- Plan and coordinate logistics for programme events, workshops and ministerial meetings, including vendor liaison and contract management
- Contribute content, digital assets and editorial support to GEM-wide social media, web and knowledge products
About the successful candidate
- Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, digital media, marketing, international development or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- At least 4-5 years of progressive experience in digital communications, events coordination or engagement roles, ideally in development, humanitarian or international organisation settings
- Demonstrated experience managing social media accounts and maintaining website content for an organisation or programme
- Proven technical skills in graphic design and multimedia production, including photo editing, short-form video and infographics, using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience delivering hands-on training or capacity building to partner or government staff on video, photography or content production
- Experience managing and archiving digital image and media files, including metadata tagging and file organisation
- Demonstrated ability to apply storytelling techniques for engaging, culturally resonant content reflecting Pacific communities and contexts
- Excellent English communication skills, oral and written, with a working knowledge of French being an advantage
