About the company
UN Jobnet Fiji lists this role with the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator (RCO), which covers Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. The RCO provides strategic leadership and coordination for the UN system, aligning support with the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. The Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) and engages with governments and partners to ensure the UN system delivers integrated support across development, peace, human rights, and resilience work.
About the role
The role is based in the RCO for the Fiji Multi-country Office in Suva and reports under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordination Specialist, with guidance from the Resident Coordinator and the Head of RCO. It supports the RCO and UNCT in exploring, documenting, and promoting responsible, secure, and inclusive use of artificial intelligence and related digital tools across core coordination functions. Work spans Cooperation Framework planning, UNCT coordination, economic and development analysis, communications and advocacy, knowledge management, and staff learning. The assignment builds on the existing Fiji UNCT Spine AI system and focuses on practical, achievable support rather than independent AI development, with all AI-assisted outputs reviewed and cleared by responsible staff before use.
Key responsibilities
- Map practical opportunities for AI to support RCO planning, coordination, and follow-up, including Cooperation Framework and Country Implementation Plans processes, meeting preparation, action tracking, briefing notes, and knowledge retrieval
- Help RCO colleagues identify which planning or coordination tasks may benefit from AI-assisted drafting, summarization, synthesis, scheduling support, or document review, and which should remain fully human-led
- Prepare short coordination products such as meeting summaries, issue trackers, action matrices, background notes, and draft agendas, ensuring all AI-assisted outputs are reviewed and cleared by responsible staff
- Assist the RCO Economist and data/results colleagues with AI-supported desk review, document synthesis, issue scanning, and organization of evidence for economic, social, and SDG-related analysis
- Support preparation of inputs to economic briefs, common country analysis, and thematic background papers by organizing source material and producing first-draft summaries for review
- Assist communications colleagues with AI-supported drafting, editing, translation support, accessibility checks, audience adaptation, and content planning, while helping verify sources and flag inaccuracies
- Organize approved RCO knowledge products, templates, meeting records, briefing materials, action trackers, and reference documents, building on the existing Fiji UNCT Spine AI system
- Assist with workflow improvements for recurring RCO tasks, including meeting preparation, action follow-up, document version tracking, contact lists, calendar-linked reminders, and internal knowledge sharing
About the successful candidate
- Accountability and integrity in handling AI-assisted outputs and sensitive information
- Adaptability and flexibility, with cultural sensitivity for working in a multicultural Pacific setting
- Strong communication and client orientation when working across RCO and UNCT colleagues
- Commitment to continuous learning and technological awareness around responsible AI use
- Creativity and knowledge-sharing skills to build short how-to notes and templates for colleagues
- Ability to work in teams, respecting diversity and maintaining professionalism and ethics in all tasks
