About the role
The SGP National Coordinator is based in the UNDP Fiji offices and reports through a matrixed structure to the Resident Representative (or Deputy Resident Representative) and to the SGP Regional Programme Specialist. The role oversees implementation of the Small Grants Programme at the country level, including direct supervision of the SGP Programme Associate/Assistant and coordination of the National Steering Committee. It covers two main areas of work: managing the SGP Country Programme team, including annual work planning and budget proposals, and leading programme and portfolio development, including the Country Programme Strategy, grant allocations, project monitoring, and stakeholder engagement with civil society and community-based organisations.
Key responsibilities
- Supervise the SGP Country Programme Associate/Assistant and provide guidance and coaching
- Promote and maintain effective teamwork within the SGP Country Programme team, National Steering Committee members, and the UNDP Country Office team
- Prepare and implement the annual work plan, including strategic or innovative initiatives with delivery and co-financing targets, and draft the annual administrative and project operational budget proposal
- Set annual performance parameters and learning objectives for the SGP Country Programme team, and assess and provide feedback on performance
- Keep abreast of national environmental concerns, priorities, and socio-economic trends and assess their impact on the SGP programme
- Ensure formulation and implementation of the Country Programme Strategy, including its periodic review and update
- Manage SGP grant allocations and the country operating budget, maintaining financial integrity and adherence to SGP Standard Operating Procedures and UNOPS rules and regulations
- Organise stakeholder workshops and project development sessions for civil society and community-based organisations and other potential applicants
