About the company

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. Its Pacific Regional Office in Suva runs the Pacific Regional Electrification Programme (Pac-REP), which supports participating Pacific Island countries to strengthen the enabling environment for rural electrification, renewable energy and energy efficiency, and to prepare and implement priority clean energy investments.

About the role

This internship sits within Pac-REP at the Pacific Regional Office in Suva, Fiji, working under the guidance of the Pacific Regional Implementation Officer and the technical team. The intern contributes to technical research, analysis, documentation and coordination related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity access and related policy and investment activities. The role is suited to a student or recent graduate in electrical engineering, renewable energy engineering, energy systems or a closely related discipline seeking practical experience in regional clean energy programming. Work includes desk research summarizing national energy policies, regulations, grid codes, utility requirements and sector plans, plus compiling and maintaining technical data, country information and project trackers. The intern also coordinates with programme colleagues and, where requested, government, utility, consultant and development partner counterparts.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the review and organization of technical information on renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity networks, rural electrification and energy access in participating Pacific Island Countries.
  • Support the preparation of technical outputs, including briefing materials, presentations and technical report sections.
  • Undertake desk research and summarize relevant national energy policies, regulations, grid codes, utility requirements, sector plans and good practices applicable to programme activities.
  • Compile, clean and maintain technical data, country information, project trackers and records of technical decisions and follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to communications activities for the program as designated by the supervisor.
  • Support preparations for country consultations, technical meetings, workshops and missions, including background research, presentation materials, minutes and action tracking.
  • Contribute to programme monitoring and reporting by collecting information on technical progress, outputs, risks and lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with programme colleagues and, where requested, government, utility, consultant and development partner counterparts in a professional and culturally respectful manner.

About the successful candidate

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's (final year), Master's or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to GGGI's work.
  • Excellent command of English.
  • Academic background in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, renewable energy engineering, energy systems, mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Foundational understanding of renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, electrical systems, power generation and distribution, or rural electrification.
  • Good analytical, research, organizational and problem-solving skills, with close attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical audiences; familiarity with engineering drawings, system specifications, energy data or basic electrical calculations is an advantage.
