About the role

The Assistant Financial Controller acts as the right hand to the Financial Controller, supporting the smooth running of the accounting department and deputizing for the Financial Controller as required. This role leads and supervises the Senior Accountant, Accountant, Cost Control Manager and Purchasing Manager, taking an active interest in their development, welfare and performance. It owns the month-end closing process, ensuring financials, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting are accurate and delivered on time. The role reviews daily revenue reports, cost allocations and forecasts, keeping stakeholders informed against monthly targets, and prepares financial reports for the Financial Controller, ownership entities and Board. It also ensures compliance with statutory and legislative requirements, including VAT lodgments and liaison with FRCS, and supports budgeting, forecasting and audit preparation.

Key responsibilities

  • Supports the smooth running of the accounting department, ensuring routine work is completed with regularity, quality and efficiency, and deputizes for the Financial Controller as required.
  • Leads and supervises the Senior Accountant, Accountant, Cost Control Manager and Purchasing Manager, taking an active interest in their development, welfare and performance.
  • Manages and oversees the month-end closing process, ensuring financials, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Reviews daily revenue reports, cost allocations and forecasts, keeping key stakeholders informed of performance against monthly targets.
  • Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the Financial Controller, ownership entities and Board, ensuring accuracy and timely distribution.
  • Ensures compliance with statutory and legislative requirements, including VAT and other lodgments, liaising with FRCS as required.
  • Supports the Financial Controller in budgeting, forecasting, and preparation for internal and external audits.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with all key stakeholders, department heads and the wider finance team.

About the successful candidate

  • Minimum 3-5 years' accounting experience in a similar senior role, with hotel or resort background strongly preferred.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CA/CPA (or working towards) preferred.
  • Strong supervisory skills with a hands-on approach and lead-by-example work style, capable of leading and developing a team of accounting professionals.
  • Accountable and takes ownership of outcomes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and follow-through across all areas of responsibility.
  • Commitment to accuracy and reliability, with a passion for the hospitality industry.
  • Sound working knowledge of financial systems (e.g. Sun System, SAP BPC) and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook and Excel.
  • Personal integrity, with the ability to work in an environment that demands precision, time and energy, and readiness to step up in the Financial Controller's absence.
