About the role
The Cable Technician I installs cat 3 cables and structured cabling, and handles upgrades, maintenance, and repair of internal communication cables, structured cabling, and Cable Distribution Frames. The role also covers repair and maintenance of aerials, RF transmission cable, and external and internal communications cables, with an understanding of network principles needed to connect telephones appropriately across airports, airfields, and other FA sites so they work well with PABX systems and other equipment. This position reports directly to the Senior Cable Technician. The technician provides technical support and guidance to the engineering team, assists in training junior technicians on cabling standards, and works with project managers and engineers on project planning and cabling needs.
Key responsibilities
- Install and terminate copper and fiber optic cables for CNS/ATM and Airport systems
- Ensure all cabling is properly labelled, tested, and meets industry standards
- Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of cabling infrastructure
- Address and resolve issues promptly to minimize impact on operations
- Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements during installations and maintenance
- Keep up to date with industry standards and practices
- Provide technical support and guidance to the engineering team and assist in training junior technicians
- Work closely with project managers and engineers, participating in project planning for cabling needs
About the successful candidate
- A Trade Certificate in either Telecommunications or Electronics Engineering Technology
- Additional certifications in working at heights
- Additional certifications in optic fibre installation and fault isolation and repair
- Appreciation of the principles of networks relevant to connecting telephone and PABX systems
