About the role

The Switchboard Operator manages the Nadi Airport switchboard, handling all internal and external communications on a 24-hour shift basis. The role includes relaying operational information, particularly around aircraft movement, and ensuring continuous service. It requires monitoring aircraft arrivals, departures, emergencies and non-scheduled flights, and providing alerting services in line with the Nadi Airport Emergency Plan, CAAF and ICAO requirements. The operator also maintains the switchboard's technical serviceability and can be called on to take over Nausori Airport's switchboard during system failures.

Key responsibilities

  • Attend to all incoming and outgoing calls through the airport's switchboard, dispatching calls to relevant departments and referring to external parties as appropriate
  • Monitor and disseminate information on aircraft arrivals, departures, emergencies and non-scheduled flights, ensuring compliance with emergency plans and regulations
  • Provide alerting services as per the Nadi Airport Emergency Plan, CAAF and ICAO requirements
  • Document and report switchboard exchange faults, liaising with standby officers for prompt resolution
  • Ensure continuous serviceability of telephone and switchboard systems, troubleshooting any disruptions
  • Prepare and maintain PABX reports, documenting all outgoing calls and switchboard usage
  • Take over operations for Nausori Airport's switchboard in case of system failure
  • Update the ETA on the FIDS screen and collate and report passenger data monthly for management review

About the successful candidate

  • Certificate level education or equivalent experience in telecommunication systems
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, clerical procedures, and telecommunication systems
  • Strong command of written and spoken English
  • Ability to handle large volumes of calls and maintain operational records
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a pleasant, professional demeanor
