About the role
The Senior Network Engineer sits within the Air Navigation Engineering Services department and owns the design, implementation, management, and optimisation of critical networks supporting CNS, ATM, and airport systems. The role is accountable for keeping these networks continuously, securely, and reliably operational, since they are vital for safe and efficient air traffic and airport management. Work spans network design and architecture, ongoing monitoring and maintenance, security and compliance, leading network-related projects, and providing training and technical support to junior engineers and stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable network architectures for CNS, ATM, and airport systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new technologies and systems into the existing network infrastructure.
- Develop and enforce network policies, procedures, and standards aligned with organisational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor network performance and reliability and implement proactive measures to ensure uninterrupted services.
- Perform regular network maintenance, including updates, patch management, and backups.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues to minimise downtime and ensure continuity of critical air navigation services.
- Implement and manage network security protocols, including firewalls, encryption, and intrusion detection systems, and conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Lead network-related projects such as upgrades and expansions, coordinate with vendors and contractors, and prepare technical documentation including network diagrams and project reports.
About the successful candidate
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-9 years of experience in network engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a senior or lead role.
- Proven experience managing networks in mission-critical environments, preferably within the aviation or transportation industry.
- Strong background in network security, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and encryption technologies.
- Experience with project management, including planning, execution, and stakeholder management.
- Advanced certifications such as CCNP or CISSP, or equivalent, are highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse complex issues and develop effective solutions.
- Ability to lead and mentor a team of engineers, with excellent verbal and written communication skills and a strong sense of ethics and responsibility around critical infrastructure.
