The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) is a statutory authority responsible for protecting Fiji's animal, plant and human health from biosecurity risks associated with the movement of goods and people. BAF manages quarantine, import and export controls and related regulatory services to safeguard Fiji's economy and environment.
About the role
The ICT Systems Administrator is responsible for the reliable, secure and efficient operation of BAF's ICT infrastructure, covering servers, networks, cloud services, cybersecurity platforms, backup and recovery systems and end-user computing. This role, based at Head Office in Suva, provides hands-on administration, monitoring, troubleshooting and technical support across BAF's Head Office and remote sites. It also supports the implementation and continuous improvement of ICT services, including infrastructure upgrades, system implementations, cloud migration and service rollouts. The position reports to the ICT Team Leader.
Key responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot Windows Server environments, virtual machines and core infrastructure services.
- Manage Active Directory services, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, user accounts and permissions.
- Perform routine system health checks, patching, upgrades, configuration changes and capacity monitoring.
- Administer and support LAN, WAN, internet and site connectivity, and monitor network availability, latency and utilisation.
- Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive, and maintain related security and governance settings.
- Administer and monitor backup and recovery services including Veeam Data Cloud, reviewing job status and maintaining backup documentation.
- Administer and monitor ESET endpoint security solutions, including policy deployment and security compliance.
- Provide Level 2/Level 3 technical support and participate in ICT projects, infrastructure upgrades and documentation.
About the successful candidate
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline with at least 3 years' relevant hands-on experience in an enterprise ICT systems role, or a Diploma in IT with 5 years' proven experience in a similar field.
- Vendor certifications such as Veeam, Microsoft Office 365, CompTIA Security+ or Fortinet are an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with virtualisation, servers and SAN storage systems.
- Hands-on experience with network switches, VLAN configuration, trunking, network segmentation, TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS and DHCP.
- Practical experience administering or supporting FortiGate firewalls and related Fortinet technologies.
- Experience with endpoint protection and cybersecurity platforms, preferably ESET PROTECT or equivalent.
- Demonstrated skills in Active Directory, Azure AD and Exchange Online, plus experience with Veeam backup solutions and DR planning and testing.
- Strong integrity, confidentiality and professionalism, with the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
