About the role
The Assistant Market Analyst – Energy works under the supervision of the Senior Market Analyst – Energy within the Economic Regulations department. The role supports independent analysis of the energy sector and other regulated industries, including market research, data gathering, and monitoring of regulatory developments. The incumbent assists in developing regulatory frameworks, price review models, and policy recommendations, and may stand in for the Senior Market Analyst when required. The role also covers administrative and reporting tasks for the energy stream and close collaboration with the Market Analyst and Senior Market Analyst on economic regulation activities, including determination of regulated tariffs, charges, and ex-factory prices.
Key responsibilities
- Gather information from regulated industries and analyse data on market trends to support departmental deliverables.
- Assist in performing data analysis for trend and market movements under the Senior Market Analyst's supervision.
- Track and summarise policy and regulatory changes that affect the department's deliverables.
- Support the Market Analyst and Senior Market Analyst in delivering departmental outputs and conducting analysis of regulated and non-regulated markets.
- Assist in preparing regulatory frameworks, developing regulatory models, and evaluating rate applications for the energy and other sectors.
- Conduct price control order reviews for regulated industries in consultation with the Competition Team.
- Assist with regulatory audits and inspections of planned CAPEX and OPEX to ensure compliance with approved regulatory models.
- Prepare and submit FCCC briefs, board papers, research reports, and periodic reports as required.
About the successful candidate
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or Statistics.
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Excellent information and data analytical skills, with strong report writing ability.
- Good listening, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management tools.
- Knowledge of the FCCC Act 2010 and a valid group two driving license are an added advantage.
- Good quantitative skills and knowledge of statistical methods.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, prioritising multiple competing deadlines.
