About the role

This role leads the Bank's Product, Policy and Research functions, ensuring alignment with the Bank's development mandate and corporate strategy. It owns end-to-end product development, from designing pricing models and risk parameters to piloting and reviewing new financial products and structured financing solutions. The role also drives policy governance, including drafting and reviewing lending guidelines and policy frameworks, and monitors portfolio performance, sector exposure, and profitability. It involves engaging internal stakeholders across Credit, Risk, Finance, Legal, ICT and Climate and Eco Finance, and representing the Bank in sector forums as delegated. The position leads cross-functional reform projects and change management, and supervises and mentors Product, Policy, and Research Officers.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Product, Policy and Research functions, aligning them with the Bank's development mandate and corporate strategy
  • Guide identification of emerging sectors, market gaps, and growth opportunities through structured research
  • Advise Senior Management and Subcommittees on product innovation, sector exposure, and policy reforms
  • Lead sectoral research, portfolio analytics, and competitor benchmarking, and oversee preparation of sector reports, concept notes, and Board papers
  • Lead end-to-end development of new financial products and structured financing solutions, including pricing models, eligibility criteria, and risk parameters
  • Draft, review, and enhance lending guidelines, product circulars, and policy frameworks for regulatory alignment
  • Monitor product performance, sector exposure, and profitability, and recommend corrective strategies
  • Engage internal stakeholders across Credit, Risk, Finance, Legal, ICT, and Climate and Eco Finance, and represent the Bank in sector forums and regulatory engagements

About the successful candidate

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field
  • Postgraduate qualification (Master's degree) in Finance, Economics, MBA, Development Finance, or Public Policy is preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years' experience in banking or financial services, credit analysis or lending, product development, policy formulation, and research and financial modelling
  • Demonstrated experience drafting policy documents and lending guidelines
  • Experience preparing Board or Management papers
  • Experience conducting market or sector analysis
  • Experience developing financial products or structured financing solutions
  • Experience in development banking or sustainability financing is an added advantage
