About the role

This Finance Officer-Cost role provides support across various financial management functions, including general ledger position, closure of month-end accounts, reconciliation and reporting, and customer/vendor account reconciliation. The role supports capital expenditure (Capex) management by monitoring project expenditure, maintaining budgets, and assisting with project close-out and fixed asset capitalization. It also covers fixed asset accounting, month-end financial accounting activities, and general ledger reconciliations against the Trial Balance. The position contributes to cost monitoring, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis against the Annual Operating Plan, along with maintaining financial systems, IT and operational asset registers, and supporting process improvement initiatives. This is a contract position.

Key responsibilities

  • Support capital expenditure (Capex) management by monitoring project expenditure, maintaining project budgets, reporting project utilization, and assisting with project close-out and fixed asset capitalization.
  • Manage fixed asset accounting processes, including creation of asset records, verification of depreciation rates in line with company policy, Work In Progress (WIP) adjustments, project postings, and asset register maintenance.
  • Perform month-end financial accounting activities, including posting of accruals, commitments, journals, payroll entries, and other financial transactions while ensuring adequate supporting documentation and approvals.
  • Prepare and maintain general ledger reconciliations, ensuring balances are accurate, supported, and reconciled to the Trial Balance within established timelines.
  • Support cost monitoring, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis, including assisting business units with expenditure reporting and providing explanations for variances against the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and prior periods.
  • Maintain financial systems and accounting records, including daily general ledger updates, direct deposit postings, customer account adjustments, and other financial system transactions.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and internal controls by identifying process gaps, recommending enhancements, and supporting implementation of improved financial and operational procedures.
  • Maintain IT and operational asset registers, including tracking staff equipment and providing asset value information to support replacement and procurement decisions.

About the successful candidate

  • Financial Management or relevant field qualification from a recognized University or Tertiary Institute.
  • Member of Fiji Institute of Accounts, or pursuing membership.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively represent TFL to all levels of an organization, especially the executive level.
  • A winning attitude, good judgment, and team player qualities with a strong sense of integrity and ethics.
