Digicel Fiji is part of Digicel Pacific, a telecommunications company operating across the Pacific region. The Finance Team supporting this role is based at Digicel's Nabua Office in Suva and services the company's Hub Markets of Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu and Nauru.

About the role

The Tax Accountant sits in the Finance Team at the Nabua Office and reports to the Senior Tax Manager. The role is responsible for timely preparation of tax compliance, tax accounting and supporting schedules across the Hub Markets of Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu and Nauru. It supports the Senior Tax Accountant and Senior Tax Manager on statutory returns, reconciliations, tax calculations, tax packs, audits and regulatory requirements. The position maintains accurate tax records and escalates complex or contentious matters for review. Work spans compliance reporting, tax accounting and reconciliations, audit and regulatory support, and process improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly and periodic statutory tax returns for Hub Markets for review and approval, including VAT/CT, FBT, telecom levy, turnover tax and gambling turnover tax
  • Prepare payment instructions for approved returns and ensure timely submission to the AP team for payment
  • Maintain statutory lodgement/payment records in KPMG Digital Gateway and monitor tax authority portals and outstanding matters
  • Prepare and post month-end tax journals, including VAT/CT clearing entries, FBT and turnover tax accruals, and income tax entries within month-end close timelines
  • Prepare tax-related balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, and reconcile tax GL balances to tax authority statements
  • Prepare quarterly and year-end tax calculations and tax packs, including tax-effect entries and supporting workpapers
  • Assist with tax audits, reviews, disputes and tax authority liaison, and with financial statement tax disclosures and statutory reporting
  • Keep abreast of changes in Hub-market tax legislation and maintain tax templates, process notes, checklists and trackers

About the successful candidate

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
  • CPA/CA qualification or currently working towards a recognized professional qualification
  • 3+ years' relevant accounting, tax or financial reporting experience, preferably within a multinational or Chartered Accounting firm
  • Knowledge of tax compliance and statutory reporting requirements, preferably across Pacific markets
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Knowledge of Great Plains/HFM advantageous
