About the company
The University of the South Pacific is a regional institution serving 13 member countries. Its Department of Commercial Operations is a self-operating funding section, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, that runs business units including the Book Centre, Fitness Centre, and Print and Catering facilities. These units support income generation and strengthen student support services, extracurricular activities, welfare, and wellbeing through the gym and other sporting facilities.
About the role
The Customer Services Officer delivers exceptional customer service by welcoming members, managing membership enquiries and registrations, processing payments, scheduling bookings, maintaining accurate records, and supporting daily reception operations at the Fitness Centre. The appointee provides professional and effective service at reception, processes Fitness Centre membership forms using the facility software system, handles Point of Sale transactions, and is responsible for daily inventory and daily reconciliation of sales and stock. The role also involves logging incidents and complaints and requires the ability to work early morning or late evening shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Welcome members and manage membership enquiries and registrations
- Process payments and schedule bookings
- Maintain accurate records and support daily reception operations
- Process Fitness Centre membership forms using the facility software system
- Handle Point of Sale transactions
- Complete daily inventory and daily reconciliation of sales and stock
- Log incidents and complaints
- Work early morning or late evening shift hours as required
About the successful candidate
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Customer service orientation with very good interpersonal skills
- Excellent punctuality and timekeeping record
- Experience and competency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- An interest in sports and recreational activities is desirable
- Diploma level qualification with one year of relevant work-related experience; or certificate level qualification with three years post-certificate relevant work experience; or post-trade/advanced certificate with five years of relevant experience and licensing where required; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
- Must be a citizen of one of the USP member countries
